I completely agree. Research on vitamin D has shown it to be low in population studies, even for those in sunny climates. Low vitamin D does more than decrease bone strength, it also impairs immune function. Low levels have been associated with higher rates of autoimmune conditions, the common cold, and cancer. I am so glad to see physicians taking this seriously and checking vitamin D levels. I work at Metametrix Clinical Laboratory in Atlanta and we are always trying to get the word out as to how important it is to check vitamin D.
